Poetic spirit of Yeongnang comes alive

The birthplace of Yeongnang Kim Yun-sik, a representative romantic poet of Korea, has been acquired by Gangjin-gun Office in 1985 and preserved in the original form.

Yeongnang Kim Yun-sik (1903 - 1950) was a romantic poet and a patriotic poet who never wrote pro-Japanese lines. He announced around 80 beautiful poems until he passed away on September 29, 1950. Among them, around 60 poems were wrote during his life here after he refused to change into a Japanese name and to pay visit at Japanese shrines. In his birthplace are the spring, camellia tree, jangdokdae and persimmon tree as well as peony trees that had become useful sources of his poems.
